Mint & Blush Geometric Styled Wedding Shoot

Cakes by Shanajane had the pleasure of collaborating with the talented Michelle Wong, at Inspired Creations YYC, and Alyssa Truong Photography for our first stylized shoot!

We did this back in December but because of the theme and colours we chose, we waited until Summer to showcase the shoot!

Since my wedding in 2015, my favorite colour has been mint green as my colour scheme was mint and peach. My good friend and collaborator Michelle, had blush and dusty blue for her wedding, and thus - Mint and Blush! And of course we couldn't decide between gold or rose gold accents... so we did both!

Geometric was my idea since it's been very on trend lately and I wanted to try and create a more modern and elegant styled wedding cake. I'm glad Michelle was on board!

Check out the spread:

I chose to do a small tiered wedding cake, mini cakes, and cupcakes to better showcase the options available at Cakes by Shanajane!

I really do love how the tiered cake turned out!

This wedding cake is a fondant covered cake, 8", 6", and 4" tiers. This cake has about 42 servings.

The top tier is blush toned with a line design embossed into it that is better shown in a close up picture below.

Middle tier is white fondant speckled with edible gold leaf.

Bottom tier is hand cut fondant strips placed into the geometric design atop of a mint green base. The strips were then painted with edible gold.

This tier definitely took the longest, I think I stopped counting after about 4 hours!

(Painstaking but worth it... right?!)

For the very top I made a gumpaste mum flower.

Below are pictures of my mini semi-naked chocolate cakes with chocolate ganache drip. They would be good as single serving cakes for your guests! I added hand cut marbled fondant hexagons to these to incorporate the geometric theme. The marble is difficult to see, but it has a mixture of grey, black, mint, and blush colors. The ends are outlined with edible rose gold color.

Look how it all comes together with Michelle's beautiful flavour tent card. Custom designed, hand painted, and I absolutely adore her calligraphy.

Now to showcase the cupcakes!

There is buttercream underneath these fondant toppers so you still get your buttercream fix! These toppers are also easy to remove if you prefer not to eat the fondant. If you have never had fondant before, it kind of tastes like marshmallows. You usually either love it or hate it, but it's just so good for making clean and on point edible decorations.

I added more hexagon tiles to these cupcakes, as well as added some line and color blocking designs.

Michelle made a custom sign that said "All you need is love and a cupcake". True story.

Perfect for a dessert table!

I need to brag a little more about how amazing Michelle is. Here are some more pictures or her work.

Will you just look at those hexagon place cards and matching watercolour dinner menus? Simply gorgeous. I loved the rose gold cardstock she used to border them as well.

If you haven't already, you need to check out Michelle's Instagram that I'll link again here:

I am so pleased with how everything turned out, especially with it being our first time doing a stylized shoot! It all came together so beautifully. Much love and many thanks to Michelle for her stunning work and to Alyssa for these magnificent photos we could share with you all.

I hope you enjoyed this post as much as I did and perhaps got some new ideas for your wedding or upcoming event.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you think Michelle and/or I could help with being a part of your next celebration!

P.S. Can you believe I didn't put any GIFs in this blog?

Just kidding. I have to.
