How soon should I order?

We advise booking your cake as soon as you know the date of your event to ensure availability, generally a minimum of 2 weeks notice is recommended.

Are you licensed?

Yes! Cakes by Shanajane holds a Rocky View County home business permit, a Food Handling permit, and is inspected by Alberta Health Services.

Do you require a deposit?

To officially book your cake, we require a 50% non-refundable deposit. Full payment is required 2 weeks from your event date. If you are needing a custom design sent to you, it will be released once your deposit is received.

What forms of payment do you accept?

At this time we only accept cash or email transers.

Do you deliver?

Cakes that are larger than 3 tiers require delivery and set up. Your quote will reflect this necessity. Smaller cakes can be picked up or delivered. Deliveries/set up are charged at $0.50/km round trip, plus an hourly rate based on driving and set up time. If picking up, it is advised to have your cake on a flat surface, taking special precautions to prevent excessive sliding or movement. Once cakes are in the hands of the person picking up, Cakes by Shanajane is no longer liable.

What if I have to change or cancel my order?

Changes: Provided that special items have not been purchased or made, basic changes (ex. colours, simple designs) can be made 10 days prior to pickup/delivery date. For changes to overall style, design, or structure, 3 weeks is required and additional costs may apply. Cancellations: The deposit is non-refundable, however if you're cancelling 1 month prior to your event date, the deposit may be transferred to another order made within 6 months.

Do you have a retail location?

Our studio is by appointment only as we specialize in custom orders.

Do you do tastings?

Yes! It is $30 for two people, and includes 3 flavours of cake and 3 flavours of buttercream of your choosing. Tastings are held at the studio and require an appointment. Tastings will be approximately 45 minutes long.

How do I store my cake?

Cakes are best served the day of pickup/delivery. Uncut cakes are good to be left out of the fridge in a cool, dry place for 1-2 days. Cut cakes are good to be left out for the same duration, however the cut portion should be covered in plastic wrap and potentially trimmed off when recutting the cake. If keeping for more than 2 days then it is recommended that you freeze the cake in an airtight container, or wrap in 2 layers of plastic wrap and placed in a thick cardboard box. If cake is buttercream and you're worried about disturbing the decorations, you can place the cake in the freezer for an hour first to let the buttercream harden. When defrosting frozen cake, leave the cake wrapped and in its container overnight in the fridge. Then place in room temperature uncovered and unboxed at least 3 hours prior to serving.

What is part of a free consultation?

Orders can be taken online or over the phone, however we highly recommend coming into the studio for a face to face consultation. This way is more personable and a great way for us to get to know you better in order to create a cake that best tells your story! Consultations are about 30 minutes long and we go over all the details of your event. Date, location, servings needed, flavours, and design concepts. You can bring inspiration photos, color swatches, anything you think will help you get the cake of your dreams. Here you can see the beginnings of the sketch of your cake design. If you are needing a copy for your records, we require a confirmed booking/deposit in order to release our sketches. If ordering without a face to face consultation, we are able to share details of your sketch, however would still need a confirmed booking/deposit to release sketches. After the consultation you can expect a quote within 24 hours.
